Secure Chorus hosts members-only Thought Leadership Platform “Open cryptography standards: transitioning to quantum-safe”

Not-for-profit membership organisation, Secure Chorus yesterday hosted a ‘members only’ Thought Leadership Platform addressing the transitioning of open cryptography standards to quantum-safe.

The round-table session, which was held at Secure Chorus’ London headquarters in Canary Wharf, was led by Mike Brown, CTO & Co-founder of ISARA Corporation and brought together Secure Chorus’ members.

While it is anticipated that quantum computing will bring substantial benefits, it will also bring threats in the field of data security across industries. This is because quantum computers will be able to solve complex mathematical problems better and faster than today’s ‘classical’ computers, including those used at the core of modern cryptography. When deployed in cyber-attacks, quantum computers will be able to decrypt sensitive data currently protected by public key cryptography methods used by governments and corporates. They will be able to do this relatively quickly.

The interactive session focused on Lattice-based cryptography, which is one of the most promising areas in quantum-safe cryptography. It further explored the replacement of MIKEY-SAKKE with a quantum-safe alternative, taking into consideration the implications for protocol designers.

This Thought Leadership Platform is an important milestone for Secure Chorus’ members that have adopted MIKEY-SAKKE open cryptography standard into their products, as it shows their preparedness for response to quantum computing threats.

Addressing Secure Chorus’ members, Mike Brown said:

“MIKEY-SAKKE is as a secure and efficient way to protect communications.  With the new quantum-safe alternatives, Secure Chorus has many options available to adopt new standards which protect customers from current and evolving threats.”

Speaking after the session, Secure Chorus Chairman, Elisabetta Zaccaria said:

“Addressing global cybersecurity challenges through government-industry co-operation is an ethos embedded into everything we do and stand for, enabling us to support the continued development of state-of-the art cybersecurity capabilities to fight cyber-crime”.

Key takeaway points from Secure Chorus’ Thought Leadership Platform included the need to begin preparing today for the quantum threat and specific next steps to replace MIKEY-SAKKE with a quantum-safe alternative.
