‘Secure Chorus: Through the Looking Glass’, the inspiring story behind our organisation

If you’ve ever wondered how Secure Chorus came in to being, then wonder no more. For in her latest full-length feature article – ‘Secure Chorus: Through the Looking-Glass’ our Chairman, Elisabetta Zaccaria reveals the inspiring story of how in a few short years a small working group of thought leaders became a fully-fledged organisation for public-private sector cooperation, that is now leading the way in cybersecurity innovation for a safer digital world.

“When we meet someone in real life, we ask questions to get to know them better. We try to unearth their story, and to tell our own. The end goal is to connect,” says Elisabetta Zaccaria. “And so, I decided to tell the story of our organisation. The story is one of an exciting journey taken by a group of silent movers and shakers, who came together to achieve a higher purpose. This wasn’t about economic exchange, but about building a platform that could foster multi-stakeholder cooperation to fight cybercrime.”

At the very start of Secure Chorus – long before we’d even thought of a name for the organisation –our thought-leadership came to understand that there was a requirement to evolve in several key areas.

First there was the need to achieve greater public-private sector co-operation to fight cybercrime. We were also aware that, in doing so, we had to ensure we struck a balance between privacy and security. There was the challenge of evolving from a network to a data-centric security approach. There was the need to develop interoperability standards to break down security silos. And last, we needed to consider Identity-based public key cryptography as a solution for the problems of public key cryptography.

Over time we have broken accepted cybersecurity paradigms and developed new ones, which have later been globally acknowledged by governments, industry, academia and policy makers. This enabled us to set the foundations on which to build the next generation of security for the ICT.

“It has also been an honour and privilege to be part of this journey, working alongside some incredibly inspiring and creative minds from different walks of life,” says Ms Zaccaria.

This is our story. In ‘Secure Chorus: Through the Looking-Glass’ we get the full picture of how UK Government, public and private sectors came to successfully engage with our organisation. We learn how they overcame the challenge of bringing together different agendas, found a common path, and achieved real impact. And that ability to create impact comes from the belief that if we dare to challenge the status quo, innovation – our core capability – will flourish in the important field of ICT security.
